How to defend against thunderstorms?

1. Avoid all easily conductive objects, such as metal, carbon, wet animals and plants.
2. Do not take shelter from rain under trees, especially trees in open environment, because they are likely to become the path of lightning discharge; Don’t stand beside tall buildings (such as rain shelters); Do not take shelter from the rain near the collapsed damp old buildings (such as ancient temples); Do not walk on the rails; Keep away from the lightning rod and grounding down lead of the building.
3. If you are in the wild and have nowhere to hide, you should squat down immediately when thunderstorms occur, with your feet together, your arms around your knees, and your head down, so as to minimize your body volume and grounding area. If you have metal objects in your hands (such as umbrella with metal pole, iron utensils, shovel, etc.), you should quickly put them far away.
4. Indoors, do not get close to the heating pipe and water pipe; Do not watch or listen to TV or radio (especially those equipped with outdoor antenna). Cut off the power supply, disconnect the outdoor antenna from the TV and connect it with the ground wire. For the sake of safety, it is best to suspend the use of electric lights and other electrical appliances, remove large objects that are easy to conduct electricity, and try not to make phone calls.
5. If the lightning becomes more and more violent, close the doors and windows and put out the fire. If it is found that the electrical equipment is burnt out by lightning, the power supply should be cut off quickly and professional personnel should be found to check and repair. When it is impossible to judge whether it is a power failure, watch the scene and don’t let people or livestock get close.
6. In thunderstorm weather, try not to stay outdoors, especially don’t go fishing, swimming and boating by rivers and lakes. Evacuate to a safe area as far as possible, but don’t run or ride fast.
